The Audio/Video Altar was designed for myself, by myself. It holds my 4-piece stereo, TV, VCR, video-tapes, several hundred cassette-tapes, 42cm of records, 510cm of CDs, and other related items (CD-cleaners, headphones). It is contructed of 7 components, which can be attached to each other in different ways, to create different compositions. The technical detailing and realization of the altar was done by Erik Jutten. · The 'masterpoint' glass doors open 180 degrees, so that they can be left open while exposing the contents (handy when watching TV), without the doors sticking out. The texture of the glass 'scatters' light shining behind and onto the glass into amazing blurs. · All components are placed at a comfortable height. While sitting, the TV is at eye level. While standing, the CD-player is just below shoulder-height. The drawers holding the cassette-tapes are, while standing, between thigh- and ribcage-height. The top of the TV and tapes-cabinet is at approximately elbow-height. ![]() There are also some photos of the construction of the altar and the finished product. |
