The following pages describe my background and involvement with the Irish Softcoated Wheaten Terrier, the Irish Standard, Mrs. Maureen Holmes' concern for the future of the Breed and an explanation by her on the Irish Standard as recognised by the F.C.I.

Please note that this homepage will be updated regularly, pictures are included to illustrate the correct appearance and type of the Irish Softcoated Wheaten Terrier.

In a particular country the appearance of Wheatens may differ greatly, due to (incorrect) selective breeding and guidance by personal taste rather then by the Standard combined with the lack of adherence to the Standard by Judges at shows.

A comparison of the various Standards in force outside Ireland and the F.C.I. dominated countries (i.e. England, America, Canada) does not justify the deviations found in the breed.

Hence the presentation of the original native outlook of the Irish Softcoated Wheaten Terrier, which is still present in Ireland and certain part of Europe, is essential in appreciating the Breed.

Thanks for your understanding
