In a particular country the
appearance of Wheatens may differ greatly, due to (incorrect) selective
breeding and guidance by personal taste rather then by the Standard combined
with the lack of adherence to the Standard by Judges at shows.
A comparison of the various
Standards in force outside Ireland
and the F.C.I. dominated countries (i.e. England, America, Canada) does not justify
the deviations found in the breed.
Hence the presentation of
the original native outlook of the Irish Softcoated Wheaten Terrier, which is
still present in Ireland
and certain part of Europe, is essential in
appreciating the Breed.
