"Tokyo Ayase Budokan"
Many people have seen the start of the Daikomyosai videos and saw a wonderful structure. This building is the Tokyo Ayase Budokan. A building which amalgamates the old warrior arts of Japan and modern architecture in one building. This page is in honour of this building. Some may find it an ugly structure, they will however admit it makes a good and practical dojo.
The main entrance from Ayase Railway Station. Notice the use of the form specially-cut pieces of paper that hang from the shimenawa (enclosing rope symbolising a holy place) in the floor tiles towards the entrance.
Hatsumi Sensei teaches at Ayase twice a week. His scedule can be found at the Bujinkan Training and Life in Japan Site. He also teaches the Daikomyosai classes there.
The ground floor is where most classes take place. It is the area in blue has tatami mats covering the floor and this is where sensei teaches most. The red line guides you through the building towards the dojo and the male (1) and female (2) dressing rooms. The Naginata Daikomyosai was in the Large Budojo.
The Budojo nr.2 on the first floor (in blue) is where sensei sometimes teaches. It has a wooden floor.
A payment card for this building with a night-time view of the building.
A ground floor picture taken by Leen Stam in 1997 when a Karate tournament took place.
