Apple Interface Design Project
In 1994 participated in the Apple Interface Design Project, sponsored by what used to be Apple's Advanced Technology Group and the Apple Industrial Design Group. A competition for students
from internationally selected universities to come up with a new, intuitive ways for
people of all ages, professions and abilities to interact with computers and access the
vast resources of such worldwide networks as the Internet.
Organized in Delft by the Laboratory of Form Theory by professor G.J.F. Smets , students from Industrial Design Engineering and Technical Mathematics and Informatics teamed up
to bring innovative results. The "Nightingale" project by Ianus Keller, Arnfinn
Kolstad, Dominique van der Linden and Evita Stoop were selected to present their work at
Apple Cupertino.
The goal of the competition as Joy Mountford put
it:
" Young people have the idealism necessary to develop really fresh ideas, they
think of the possibilities and not the limitations. And, by encouraging them to work in
interdisciplinary teams, we create an environment that best prepares them for the world of
work. Most importantly, we also set up a situation in which they can come up with projects
that are superlative conceptually, technically and visually."
P.S. For those interested I have a photo-cd with pictures of the presentation that can be ordered. Look at the thumbnails for selection.
